How to Choose the Right Dumpster Size

Updated: Sep 10, 2021

When it comes to moving all the junk yourself when you are in the process of a renovation or a major cleanup of your home is time-consuming and stressful. You will definitely have a massive pile of debris and trash scattered around your property. Some of which can be very sharp and bulky waste materials that could damage your vehicle while transporting them to the dump. So that is where a roll off dumpster comes in handy, but the big question remains, what size dumpster do you need?

Available size options

You can get rental dumpsters in sizes from 10 to 30 cubic yards, and at Containers Inc, we have 10, 20 and 30-Yard roll off dumpsters. Choosing the right size for your dumpster will help you save money because you might pay for unused space if the dumpster is too big for your project. Assuming you hire a dumpster that is too small for your project, you’ll spend more to get another one.

Weight

Weight is another important consideration when it comes to hiring a dumpster. The average weight limit for 10 cubic yard dumpsters is typically 2-3 tons, or 4,000-6,000 pounds. Typically, 20 yard containers include 4,000-8,000 pounds, or 2-4 tons. The average weight limit for 30 cubic yard dumpsters is typically 4-6 tons, or 8,000-12,000 pounds.

Type of debris

The type of debris matters when it comes to choosing your dumpster size, reason being even if all of the space is not used you may be required a larger dumpster due to the weight of the material being located inside of the dumpster. If you do not know the weight of the material call us so we can help!
